DORA ORONTI

Meet Dora Oronti, one of our colleagues in the Society of Women Writers & Journalists living in Cyprus. Dora is a distinguished painter, poet and writes wonderful prose. Dora loves her home: "Cyprus is a happy island full of sunshine, even in the winter-time. Visitors can discover its interesting history and explore its beautiful places" As a busy artist and graphic designer, Dora’s work has been presented in shows in New York, Mexico, The Hague, Athens and other European centres. She is the founder of two art workshops for children and has organised TV programmes. We hope to meet up with Dora this year, if possible.

ARTHUR EDWARDS - ROYAL PHOTOGRAPHER

Royal Sun newspaper photographer, Arthur Edwards gave a great talk at the Shenfield Parish Hall last week when he entertained his audience with tales of his life and career, backed by superb photographs which are in his newly published book MAGIC MOMENTS. The evening raised much-needed funds for the J’s Hospice which, it is hoped, will be built in Chelmsford. It is hoped, when constructed, this first stand-alone hospice for young adults aged 18-40 diagnosed with a life-threatening illnesses, will also provide respite care for patients. The charity now has an office in Springfield Road, Chelmsford, which is managed by Mary Fox. For donations and offers of much needed help, check their website www.thejshospice.org.uk

ESSEX AUTHORS MEET READERS

Friday's gathering at Brentwood Library was hugely successful. More than 15 authors turned up to meet their readers, editors, photographers, local radio presenters and, perhaps more importantly, each other. Trish Carter and staff were on hand with refreshments and advice and all seemed to enjoy sharing this 'special showcase'. Even Jim Shrubb, the Billericay Town Crier turned up and was happy to pose with our stars of the evening.
