GLOBAL DAY OF GIVING - DO THINK ABOUT THE FELINE NETWORK CAT RESCUE TEAM

Today is Giving Tuesday which is a global day of giving. A day where everyone, everywhere can do something to support the good causes and communities that mean so much to them. It is a day to celebrate and encourage giving in all its forms.
On this day we’d firstly like to thank all our volunteers who give up their time to work in our shop, foster for us, provide transport, cat cuddle and go out at all times of day and night to help cats in need. Without them we simply wouldn’t exist.
Next and equally important we’d like to thank all our supporters and everybody that has donated goods to our shop and/or money, whether it be a one-off donation or a regular donation. We’re a small independent rescue so rely solely on shop sales and monetary donations to keep us going.
But we need your ongoing support whether it be in time or money so please do think about either volunteering or making a one-off or regular donation. Even a pound will make a difference - they all add up! You can donate here: paypal.me/felinenetwork or take a look at our website for more ways to help. http://www.felinenetwork.co.uk
Thanks again from all the team here at Feline Network and the many cats that we have helped over the years😽

SEVEN GENERATIONS? WHERE DO YOU FIT IN?

As all writers know, research is vital for us in all areas of our industry and sometimes we are required to categorize the people we write about.  So, let's look at the seven generations that are often referred to in current journalism. Time marches on and it's good to keep up to date.  Where do you fit in?  Who do you think you are? I've just been sent info about the seven generations to choose from

  • The Greatest Generation (born 1901–1927)
  • The Silent Generation (born 1928–1945)
  • Baby Boomers (born 1946–1964)
  • Generation X (born 1965–1980)
  • Millennials (born 1981–1995)
  • Generation Z (born 1996–2010)
  • Generation Alpha (born 2011–2025)

CALLING ALL CAT LOVERS IN TORBAY DEVON - FELINE NETWORK NEEDS LOVING CAT FOSTERERS

    Feline Network needs Cat Fosterers

We are facing a cat rescue crisis. There have never been so many cats in desperate need of a rescue space. Yet FN and many other rescues are having to turn away so many needy cats. There is simply no space at the inn.
Why? Partly due to the fact people are not in a financial position to adopt a pet right now. Partly due also to the over-breeding and subsequent non-neutering of so many cats during lockdown. Many of whom escaped or were abandoned, bred, producing kittens that then bred and these were born feral. Also, due to people not having the financial means to properly care for their cats. Doubly so if said cat needs any kind of vet intervention or treatment. One of my favourite charities - Felinenetwork is one of the most hardworking cat charities in Devon. They are a foster-based rescue, with a very small amount of cattery spaces. Nowadays, these spaces are full.
They need more fosterers.
Fosterers take cats into their home, either as part of the family or n a spare room etc, and care for them, taking them to the vets as required, administering flea and worming treatment, ensuring they are fed and watered, socialising them, keeping them safe.
There is a small amount of paperwork required, which the charity can help with, and you would need landlord permission if you do not own your home. They would carry out a home check where they explain their policies - what fostering entails - and gives cat lovers an opportunity to ask them anything you are unsure about. They cover all vets’ bills, provide everything you will need, you provide the TLC!

HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY TO RONALD BLYTHE CBE

Many years ago, this esteemed British writer, who became the President of our Brentwood Writers' Circle, wrote his famous book Akenfield: Portrait of an English Village, set in Suffolk, a county he knows so well. Five years later, in spring 1974, Sir Peter Hall, made Ronald's story into a film, in which local villagers  took some of the parts. It's now a classic and can be viewed on the web.

Ronald Blythe kept in touch with our Brentwood Writers' Circle, through his friend, Eileen Huckbody from time to time and invited our members to his home in north Essex, as well as visiting us to give talks about his current work.

Today, numerous national newspapers marked Ronald's special birthday, mentioning his very latest title 'Next to Nature: A Lifetime In The English Countryside' ' which was recently published by John Murray Books.

When interviewed, Ronald said his new book contained an important message - to slow down and appreciate the natural world. And yes, he was pleased with his congratulatory message from King Charles. He could very well be greeting his friends at his home and maybe enjoying a glass of sherry.

We wish you a very happy birthday.

BRENTWOOD WRITERS' CIRCLE GATHERING TODAY IN THE TOWN

Despite heavy rain in Brentwood, it was interesting to attend our latest gathering at the Bardswell Social Club for a lively and fascinating afternoon listening to some of our members' current work in progress. I'm always amazed at the variety and writing skill of our members and it's a delight when their work is accepted and published.  Do check out our website www.brentwoodwriterscircle.com.

Some of our members are seeking publication of their work; some are self-publishing and soon we will see more about their projects. Marketing is vital, of course, and our Brentwood Writers' Social team will do their best to assist wherever this is possible.  The old adage 'keep on keeping on', particularly in our field, is important.  Don't give up!

WE ARE APPROACHING CHRISTMAS BOOK BUYING AND I CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING MORE FESTIVE THAN THE CONTENT OF THIS LOVELY LITTLE BOOK

It may only be first week of November, but already the book buying industry is in fine fettle, working towards the Christmas selling bonanza.

This little book was published some years back, but continues to reap good reviews and sales at this time of the year.

Elizabeth Wallace now lives in Denver, Colorado, but comes over to the UK from time to time to sign her  books and talk about her writing and crafting work on Phoenix98fm radio, based in Brentwood, Essex, England. Available from Waterstones and all good bookshops.
