Forget Never Project

D-Day 80 Anniversary plans Thursday 6TH June

On the Anniversary of the D-Day landings 80 years ago on the 6th June, The Forget Never project will be holding a number of events to remember the fallen of the Basildon Borough.

Below is a list of the programme of events on the 6th and the 8th June in the Borough. 

 8.am: Stephen Metcalfe reads out the National Proclamation at Howards Park War Memorial Pitsea.

Two pupils from Briscoe Primary School will present the poem ‘Dear Veteran’ 

 10.30 – 16.00 Model re-enactment of assault on a German Artillery position Overlooking Omaha Beach by American 101 Airborne Division at The Green Centre, Wat Tyler Park. Open to the public. 

 14.00 Afternoon Tea for the residents at Maydells Court, Pitsea 

 Including a Choir from Briscoe School performing songs from the 40s 

 Jo Cullen from Basildon Heritage presenting photo display of ‘Basildon at War’ 

 Display showing ‘Basildon’s Fallen of Operation Overlord’ 

 20.30 Wat Tyler Park- Gates open for the public to watch the Beacon Lighting 

 21.00 Ceremony begins:

 The International Tributes read by: 

 Stephen Metcalfe, Patron of The Forget Never Project 

Rev. David Ibiayo 

Frank Mallett – whose Father landed on Omaha Beach on the 6th June 1944  Councillor Pat Reid 

Next Gen Twinning Member Ethan Raymond 

Next Gen Twinning Member Callum Douglas 

 21.15 Stephen Metcalfe lights the Pitsea Beacon & The Lamp of Peace  

21.25 Members of Next Gen (Young Twins of the Borough) 

Reading of the names of the Fallen from Basildon Borough 

SATURDAY 8th JUNE

12.00 Mother’s Kitchen Felmores End - D-Day mini fete opens 

13.30 Sponsored Walk Walkers begin to assemble in Northlands Park, Felmores 

 14.00 Walk begins led by Piper Andrew MacGregor 

 14.30 walkers leave for Howard’s Park

 15.15 Andrew MacGregor to play outside entrance to Tesco Pitsea 

 15.30 Complete Walk to Wat Tyler Park 

 16.00 Arrive at The Green Centre for Refreshments 

 Viewing of ‘Pegasus Bridge’ constructed by Gary Canham 

(1930s Ice-Cream Van (Working and serving)
