IT'S LOVELY TO WRITE ABOUT THE FAMOUS DAGENHAM GIRL PIPERS IN MY BOOK BARKING & DAGENHAM FROM OLD PHOTOGRAPHS
|
I've become very fond of this little man made of Scot's pine believed to be 4,000 years' old. He is now dubbed THE DAGENHAM IDOL |

SHEILA HATCHER (nee Nobes) BEM
Currently writing a feature about the Dagenham Girl Pipers in readiness for a talk coming up. Lovely to meet many of them at Sheila's lovely home a while back. Have dozens of postcards and photographs and could have filled a whole book with them, instead of just a chapter in BARKING & DAGENHAM FROM OLD PHOTOGRAPHS. It took several years of research and writing to compile the book which commemorated 50 years since the area became just another London Borough. Used around 200 images which have brought back so many memories to former residents, many living around the world. The Ford Motor Company images are by permission of their historian. Books will be on display at the Chadwell Heath historical meeting in April 2016.
